The Ananda Foundation hosts a screening of Zemene in Honolulu for Ethiopian, Behane Daba. Berhane is the winner of The National Peace Corps Association's 2015 Harris Wofford Global Citizen Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a global leader by the National Peace Corps Association. Berhane Daba is president and founder of Ethiopian Women with Disabilities National Association (EWDNA), an organization that works to empower women with disabilities with the skills and confidence they need to become economically independent. Daba advocates for equal access for women and people of disability so that they can reach their full potential, something she has had to deal with in her own life. Berhane is an incredible role model and inspiration and Zemene is proud to know her!

Thank you to everyone who donated over the last 6 months to the building of a school in Zemene's village in Belessa, Ethiopia! Zemene and her uncle Menormelkam visited Minneapolis for the fundraising event and participated in a Q/A after the film's screening. They were presented with a check for $45,000 from Pathways to Children, a non profit hosting the screening of the film. This project has been a goal for Zemene and the film since 2007 and we are thrilled to have reached this stage. Over 200 children in the area of Belessa will soon have access to a proper elementary education. The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, (JDC) will be overseeing the building in conjunction with the Ethiopian government. We have not been given a time frame for the building to begin but hope it will be shortly after the rainy season ends in September.
